Volume I begins the FAR Master Class textbook project by teaching acquisition professionals how to read the FAR as text, system, authority, structure, command language, definitions, context, logic, and regulatory argument.
The volume then applies that method across FAR Parts 1 through 18, moving from acquisition authority and definitions through planning, competition, market research, contract formation, contract types, special contracting methods, and emergency acquisitions.
Written for acquisition professionals who want more than procedural familiarity, Volume I teaches readers how to reason from FAR text to defensible acquisition conclusions supported by authority, facts, documentation, and reviewable judgment.
What Volume I Teaches
Volume I teaches readers how to move from FAR text to defensible acquisition judgment.
The opening chapters develop the interpretive method: reading the FAR as text, system, and authority; understanding regulatory architecture; interpreting command language; applying definitions; reading context; building logic chains; and constructing FAR arguments from rule to conclusion.
The part-by-part chapters then apply that method across FAR Parts 1 through 18. The purpose is not merely to summarize each FAR Part, but to show how each Part works within the larger regulatory system.
Readers learn to ask the questions that matter in advanced acquisition practice: What rule controls? What do the terms mean? What facts trigger the rule? What exception applies? Who has discretion? What must be documented? What conclusion can the file support?
